I Might Catch an International Case!

Updated: Aug 9, 2023

I try to be a good person. Reasonable. Fun and more, but I just can't do it today: Day 15 in el barrio!

Yesterday I came home from grocery shopping to find that there was a little block party going on. I thought it was super cute because I later found out from my Airbnb hosts that it was a graduation party for the local kids. The smell of smoke from the BBQ and the DJ set up, took me back to cousin Little Momma's backyard (that is where we used to spend most of our summers). I remember spending hours hanging out with my cousins as the music was playing, my Nanna dancing, drinks being poured and occasional fights breaking out (if you know you know). So of course, I didn't have an issue ...even with the music being so loud. I think I even told you on my last blog post, that I would take some ZzzQuil to go to sleep. HOWEVER, last night was a shit show!

Around 9pm, I politely asked my Airbnb hosts (via text), when the music would be turned down. I wasn't upset when I sent the text, simply inquiring. They responded with, "what music." As you can imagine, I was puzzled considering that they live on the ground floor. The DJ was set up right outside their door, and the speaker was LITERALLY pointing to our building. So, I politely replied, then was left on read. As you can imagine, by 2am I was LIVID. the music was still blaring loud. I had messaged the hosts again explain to them I had to be up for work the next day, and they did nothing and said nothing. So, by 3am, I put on my clothes (I sleep naky) and walked outside my front door.

I CURSED EVERYBODY OUT. In Spanish and in English. The school kids that had graduated where in their homes...their parents were in their homes; their grandparents were in their homes. The only people that were left was the DJ and his friends. You would have thought we were somewhere in the club the way these broads were dressed. Please note that I don't mind loud music...but 3am on a Sunday is a no go for me. I was even pissed at my hosts because they didn't even give me a heads up. I am telling you, if they would have let me know that there was going to be a party, I would have extended my hotel stay. Instead, they left me in the dark once again (last week they had the upstairs bathroom repairs and it reeked of human bio for 4 hours strait).

It was only right of me to send a long ass message of my disapproval. I also told them that I would be looking for other places to stay because they clearly aren't great at communicating with their tenants. I felt bad for my neighbor. She is a single mother with a small 1 year old baby. I mean, she has AC, so she doesn't have to keep her doors and windows open like me, but when the music rattles your windows/doors, I can only imagine. To make matters worse, I spent all day on the phone with Airbnb support people to try to get a refund. That in itself was a shit show, so I won't even get into that.

Any who. I didn't get much sleep last night, so I am signing off early in the hopes that I will get some tonight. I am not even eating dinner.....actualy I am just gonna make some eggs. Wish me luck!
